Hostels in Luang Prabang have social vibes and laid back atmosphere. There are no crazy on-site parties, but they organize tons of cool group activities where people can meet each other.
Luang Prabang is generally a pretty strict area, that is why most places close down early. But it doesn't mean that you can't have a great nightlife experience. There are still some places where you can party. The most suitable hostel for that is located right close to some of the best bars and clubs.
Although the nightlife in Luang Prabang isn’t as good as in other Asian cities, there are some pretty cool places where you can have the craziest night out ever. The drinks and food are very cheap, which makes the fun even better. However, the party is starting earlier because of the strict law and early closing times.
Most of the nightlife is located on the riverside, Kitsalat road and side streets. All the places can be reached by walk since the area is not large at all. Even if you are too lazy to walk 15 minutes, taxis are always good and cheap options.
Bars are the epicentre of social life in the city. Locals prefer to meet each other at one of many bars along the riverside and in the city centre. Most of them are serving food and drinks, along with great music and sunset parties.
Utopia Bar and Restaurant is probably the best place to watch the sunset and listen to chill music. Happy hours are very often on the menu, with great discounts on Lao cocktails. Icon Klub is more like a traditional pub, with a chilled and cosy atmosphere. Service is great and the staff is amazing.
Despite the fact that there are only a few clubs in Luang Prabang, they are hosting great parties. A wide selection of beers and cocktails mixed with awesome music are more than enough to make your night memorable.
U Pub has a great stage with live music and bands on weekends and the biggest dance floor in the city. Nights here can get pretty wild, especially during the happy hours.
If you want to explore the real city’s vibes, the street market is the place where you should go. Locals are very friendly and always happy to chat with guests.
Open every single day from late afternoon, the area of Sisavangvong and Settathilat streets turns into a crowded place with lots of food, souvenirs, traditional drinks, etc. Prices are lower than in regular restaurants and bars, and vibes are simply amazing.
A casual look will get you in every bar and club. Locals don’t care too much about dress code when going out, so wear whatever makes you feel good.
If you want to buy alcohol, 18 is the legal age. When it comes to the bars and clubs, they apply the same rule for serving alcoholic drinks, but they don’t mind younger guests.
